In celebration of its recent opening, Compton Early College High School welcomed the community inside its classrooms, Saturday, October 24, to learn first-hand how its students are being prepared for success in college.

Parents had the opportunity to meet with instructors and experience the academic rigor their children are exposed to as they work their way towards AA degrees and college credits before graduating high school.

Parent Lee Trimble visited his son Reginald’s English Language Arts class where he met with instructor Mona Walker and participated in an analytical writing exercise.

He said he applied his son for Compton Early College because he wants his son to be challenged while also reaching new academic heights.

“We moved out here in the summer and we looked for schools in the area and heard about the early college. My son had excelled in his academics in Orange County but Compton Early College maximizes his potential,” he said. “My son just received his report card. He’s still excelling but it has been challenging for him. I really appreciate this program.”

They said they enjoyed interacting with their daughter’s instructors and experiencing the curriculum Compton Early College offers.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for our daughter to earn her AA degree and high school diploma all at once. We know it’s challenging but she’s doing a good job,” Rosa said. “It’s great being here in the classroom, seeing what she does every day. We are glad the school and teachers were able to invite us on a Saturday to get real insight into what happens in the classroom.”

Carlos said he is a regular at the school and is very involved in his daughter’s education.

“I come here often to talk to the teachers to see what’s going on in class. This school is a great opportunity for students and I hope it helps my daughter become someone in the future,” he said.
