Baby Autumn Suspect Released Pending Further Investigation
Ray Howard Patterson, 23, was arrested on Monday, February 22, 2016, based on leads developed during the ongoing homicide investigation regarding the murder of one‑year‑old baby Autumn Johnson in the city of Compton. The arrest was based on probable cause to believe he was involved in her murder.
Today, February 24, 2016, Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives presented the case to the District Attorney’s Office for their consideration of filing criminal charges. The District Attorney’s Office asked for further investigation from the Sheriff’s Department. As a result, the arrestee is being released from custody. The extensive homicide investigation is continuing, which includes identifying all principals and accessories involved.
Detectives believe there are community members who can help solve this tragic, senseless murder of a baby. The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information about the suspect(s) or the events before, during or after the murder, to provide that information and aid our efforts to bring justice to Autumn and her family.

A reward in the amount of 75,000 dollars has been offered through the combined efforts of the city of Compton, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. There is no further information available at this time.
