Mayor Aja Brown was a guest on KJLH by phone to talk about the Compton 90 Day Fitness Challenge. She explained why she saw a need for the community event that everyone in the city is encouraged to participate.

There will be an online community for encouragement and to stay in contact during the week. There will also be “Pop-Up Workout Classes” throughout the city at different parks, the MLK Monument, Fun Runs, walking parks within the city, 24 Hour Fitness may have something led by fitness professionals according to the mayor.
The entire event is free and there are also cash prizes (up to $5000) and give away’s to keep everyone motivated.

KJLH is also sponsoring a Women’s Health Expo April 23rd from 7am to 3pm at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The Healthy Compton initiative is a community-based comprehensive approach to educating, empowering, and equipping Compton residents to lead healthier lives through the experience of healthy outcomes. Mayor Brown, along with a host of health and wellness partners throughout the City of Compton and surrounding communities are focused on enabling residents to build healthy habits. The Initiative is a result of Mayor’s Brown’s leadership and a grassroots community effort with local residents, business owners and stakeholders working together over the past two years.
Healthy Compton’s 90-Day Community Fitness Challenge is an opportunity to have fun, be active, and win prizes. It’s simple and fun and open to all ages. Individuals and teams of up to four people are encouraged to participate in group workouts and pop-up workout classes throughout the City. There will be special guests and awards and prizes.
