“My friend, Louie David told me, ‘Why don’t we just start our own league?’ “
But for Marshall Crawford and company, that was becoming the only option left.
Many questions came to mind…
- How would we fund the league?
- Could we offer free youth football clinics for all youth who wanted to participate?
- How could we make it affordable so parents don’t have to come up with the registration all at once?
After many days and nights of soul searching, Crawford, an avid coach and mentor from the city of Compton and other coaches and parents who he became close to during his time with LA County Pop Warner decided it was time to move on.
“Transparency and communication are very important to me”, Marshall stated in an interview conducted during his weekend free off-season training camp, held at his Normandale Recreation Center facility in Torrance. “I wanted to be someplace where I felt the parents and children were treated fairly. Favoritism has no home here. We’re all family.” Crawford and fellow, former Pop Warner coaches Louis David, Diron Rivers and Anthony Simien knew it was time to strike out and build something new.
Crawford vowed to find a place that in his words that “made sense”. After a few setbacks, they found that place with the AAU. Partnering up with the AAU’s SCEYFL – Southern California East-West Youth Football & Cheer, the LA Harbor Panthers are committed to providing boys and girls ages 4-14 an opportunity to play and cheer in the Torrance, Harbor City, Lomita, San Pedro and neighboring areas.
Currently, the LA Harbor Youth Football & Cheer is raising money for the 2016 season, so your financial support will be allocated exclusively towards offsetting the cost of field equipment and uniforms.
