UPS Bringing New Jobs to the City of Compton Brickyard. Tuesday night Mayor Aja Brown and the Compton City Council voted unanimously to approve an “Economic Development Subsidy to United Parcel Services, Inc.”.

Compton City Manager Jerry Groomes reported to the city council an incentive agreement between the City of Compton and UPS.  United Parcel Services, Inc would commit to a minimum of 50 full time jobs for Compton residents. It would also invest a minimum of $70 million in equipment purchases in the City of Compton over the next five years.

This would be in exchange to occupy the larger of the two newly built buildings (525,400 SQ.FT.) at the Brickyard South Bay Distribution Center in Compton.

Focused Benefits for the City of Compton

As an additional incentive to United Parcel Services, Inc a 30% tax rebate would be given to the company.  Based on a minimum $70 million investment that would be $1.45 million in gross receipts for the City of Compton.

This agreement would be for 10 years and after that the City of Compton would get 100% of sales taxes generated from UPS.

Compton Residents Reap Early Benefits From Brickyard Project

Compton as the Hub City is in the best position possible to capitalize on logistics and e-commerce growth from the Port of Los Angeles & Long Beach. Small and mediums size businesses that utilize UPS everyday to ship goods locally and internationally.

Far More Positive Reaction From All Sides

Although, a few people reacted with skeptical comments the vast majority of citizens at the public hearing were in support of United Parcel Services, Inc. to come to the City of Compton.
