Mayor Brown Encourages Compton Residents Apply for New Walmart Jobs

Compton, CA – Compton Mayor Aja Brown is encouraging residents to apply for hundreds of new jobs at a new Walmart Supercenter slated to open soon in Compton. Currently, resumes are being accepted through the City’s CareerLink Workforce Development Solutions center located at 700 N. Bullis Road. For more information, interested applicants can call (310) 605-3050 Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

“Compton’s Walmart Supercenter will offer fresh produce, a bakery, a deli, an optometrist and a pharmacy, but that’s not all,” explained Mayor Aja Brown.  “As a part of a Community Benefits agreement that mandates local hiring and business preference requirements, at least 35% of Walmart employees will be residents who live in the City of Compton, and shop where they work.  The addition of Walmart in the Compton community will generate substantial new tax revenue and investments in the city.”

The new Walmart Supercenter will be located at the site of the former Compton Swap Meet on Long Beach Boulevard. Once completed, the new store will provide jobs and access to fresh food for Compton residents and surrounding communities. The state-of-the-art store is expected to be open by 2017.

Walmart provides its associates with more opportunities for career growth and greater economic security for their families than other companies in America.

For more information, interested applicants can call (310) 605-3050 Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
